However, there are some important questions on Floderus’ case, which come as follow:
If the accusations leveled against Johan Henrik Niels Flodros' activities and missions in Iran are not true, while the charges are only parts of security and intelligence accusations, why doesn't the Swedish government provide strong reasons and evidence to reject them? Why does Sweden remain silent on this case and does not provide any proactive response to defend its national?
Why has this Swedish national got involved in a mission for Israel and in covert plans aimed at toppling the Islamic Republic, for which he is paying the price? What does that mean for Sweden as an independent European country?
How would the Swedish government convince the public opinion if it has been informed of Israel’s misuse of its national, and what motivations could be behind that? Why doesn’t Sweden hold Israel accountable if it has not been informed of the misuse?
Why has the Swedish government caused so much uproar among the Muslim society regarding the burning of the Qur’an copies and insulting their sanctities, and allowed for tensions to simmer over the issue in that country? That’s happening while Muslims in Sweden have for years been living alongside people from other religions without facing any issue on their sanctities.
Why should a Swedish national caught in the middle of discords within a low-profile political group that has been repeatedly accused of terrorist acts, and still faces the silence of his government?
Why does the Swedish government refuse to seriously follow up the case of its national? Isn’t it due to its weakness as well as fears of Israel and other pressure groups?
What mission has Floderus been conducting that Sweden still keeps silence and refuses to reveal the details one and a half year after his detention? How has this stance helped Floderus so far?
Why doesn’t the Swedish Embassy in Tehran, at least, provide a report on the measures taken over Floderus’ case to inform his family and the public opinion in Sweden? Why has no tangible result been achieved if any positive measures have been taken?
Was it a correct strategy to remain silent on resolving the crisis surrounding the Swedish national? If it wasn’t a correct policy, why it has not been changed yet?
Who has ordered the Swedish government to keep silent on the case of Floderus?
What is the cooperation, which EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell refers to? If Floderus has been on a diplomatic mission, why don’t the EU, the Swedish Foreign Ministry and other diplomatic departments follow up on his case seriously and quickly? Why don’t they report to the Swedish public about their measures if they have taken any?
Now that Israel is engaged in its war on Gaza, the Swedish government should have the courage to follow up on the case of its national, or it should break its meaningful silence by giving explanation on his whereabouts.
These are some of the hundreds of questions, which have remained unanswered regarding a case that could be among the most important and latest cases between Iran and Sweden. The writer has tried to briefly assess different aspects of Floderus’ case based on an impartial view, as his trial process has got underway in Iran.
