Israeli crimes on Christmas Eve expose complete lack of moral compass: Tehran

Tehran, IRNA – The horrifying pictures of the Zionist regime’s atrocities on the eve of Christmas lay bare the fact the occupying entity does not adhere to any of the divine, religious, and international principles, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman says.

“We witnessed that Christians canceled their (Christmas) celebrations in the birthplace of Christ in solidarity with the Palestinians, and it is a source of regret that the Zionist regime did not cease its crimes even on the eve of Christ’s birth,” Nasser Kanaani said at a weekly press conference in Tehran on Monday.

“Horrifying pictures of their crimes have been published that night, showing that more than 70 Palestinians were killed in the barbaric bombing of al-Maghazi (refugee) camp. This crime showed once again that the Zionist regime does not adhere to any of the divine, religious and international principles.”

Kanaani argued that the resolution passed by the UN Security Council once again showed the full-fledged supportive role of the United States toward the Zionist regime.

“With the objection of the United States, there is no clause in the provisions of this resolution calling for immediate efforts to stop the crimes,” he lamented.

He added that the resolution is void and unenforceable.

Tensions in international waters

Kanaani also pointed to the recent accusations made by the United States against Iran on the Islamic Republic’s role in certain tensions in international waters, noting that the US is leveling endless accusations while it is the main accused party over the last two months because it is the first and foremost responsible party for the initiation and the continuation of the aggression of the Israeli regime’s war on Gaza, so these claims are raised to pursue psychological projection, and cover up the US-led crimes in Gaza, and to pursue clear political objectives.

According to the spokesman, Iran has always been one of the major protectors of security in international waters and played a key role in maritime security and global trade via international waters; therefore, the US and other parties are not in a position to accuse Iran.

UK accusation against Iran

He also said that the United Kingdom is not legally and morally in a position to level accusations against Iran and other regional states.

The Israeli regime’s officials have named UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron as their best friend; thus, the UK and this politician say things that the Israeli regime expects them to.

Regarding the Gaza aggression, the UK is considered an accomplice, he said, arguing that the role of the European country in establishing the fake regime and providing it, which is the most hated terrorist entity in the region, with unlimited support, as well as London’s stance in the last two months are examples of ignoring their responsibility, so they should be held accountable for their past and recent wrongdoings.

FM Spox slams Sweden's upholding of Nouri’s sentence

Regarding the latest developments of the case of Hamid Nouri, the former Iranian judiciary official who has been illegally incarcerated in Sweden since 2019, Kanaani said that defending the rights of Iranian citizens is one of the inherent responsibilities of Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and it has made the necessary efforts so far, He also said that Iran's Judiciary has also made efforts to free release the Iranian citizen from Swedish prison.

Iran expected that Sweden would compensate for its egregious action in the appeal court, which did not take place, and the Swedish court issued the illegal, cruel verdict against this Iranian citizen. But this does not mean the end of Iran's efforts to free up Nouri, he added.

This Iranian diplomat added that Iran objects to the decision of the Swedish Court and what has happened during the long period of imprisonment of this Iranian citizen, adding that Hamid Nouri has been deprived of basic rights in Swedish prisons.

‘Iran striving to end Israeli war on Gaza’

Kanaani also said Iran’s endeavors concerning the Zionist regime’s war on Gaza have been ongoing and will continue in the future.

“Our last step was to host the Tehran International Conference on Palestine, which was held with the presence of representatives from 60 countries, where the international community once again announced its demand to stop the war, a demand that has not been realized so far,” he explained.

Regarding Iran’s priorities concerning the issue of Palestine and its future, the spokesman said Tehran is in effective contact with all the relevant parties and its priority is to end the occupying regime’s war crimes and military strikes against Gaza. He made clear that addressing secondary issues seems irrelevant now.

He also lamented the fact that the countries that are responsible for the war are already talking about the post-war stage from outside the region.

“Our stance is clear: ending the war, enabling the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, and ensuring that the future of Palestine is determined solely by its people.”

Kanaani further urged the international community to use all effective and serious means to bring to an end the war against the oppressed people of Palestine.

Iran-Egypt ties

The spokesman stated that on the basis of a roadmap, which was articulated between the Iranian and Egyptian sides in New York as well as promising talks between presidents of both countries, the development of mutual ties is expected to be beneficial for the two nations and the whole region.

Astana talks

Asked about possible Astana talks on developments in Syria, Kanaani said that he does not have any information about the precise venue and date of a future meeting; however, the Astana talks have been one of the issues discussed by Iran and Turkiye. In a recent visit by the Turkish deputy foreign minister to Iran, the two sides discussed different issues, including the Astana talks on Syria, he mentioned.

Iraq elections

The diplomat emphasized that the recent elections in Iraq are an internal affair and part of the diplomatic process of the neighboring country, which has been always backed by Iran, he said, adding that Iraq is enjoying political stability.

Visa process

As to cooperating with other countries in respect of issuing visa, he said that the matter is one of the diplomatic measures being conducted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran and also part of its consular interactions with other countries.

Iranian islands in the Persian Gulf

Regarding Russia's behavior towards Iran and the Morocco forum, Kanaani said, "We have expressed our position in this regard, and the claims in the statement of the 6th Arab-Russian Cooperation Forum, held in Morocco, regarding the ownership of three Persian Gulf islands are regarded as actions against Iran's sovereignty and territorial integrity and are not acceptable by Iran.

Iran's sovereignty over the islands is non-negotiable and Iran has rejected the statement, he said adding that the Islamic Republic will not hesitate to defend its territorial integrity.

Referring to the joint meeting of the Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan and Iran, he said that it was a part of the efforts of the two countries to resolve the remaining issues in the process of relations between the two countries and the case of investigation into the armed attack on the Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran. He also said that the process has been positive so far and different aspects of this case have been reviewed.

Terrorist attack in southeastern Iran

Regarding the border cooperation between Iran and Pakistan following the recent Rask terrorist attack, this diplomat said that the border and security issues of both sides are always discussed in the framework of the specific policy between the security organizations.

‘Iran prefers to keep Arash gas field issue out of media attention’

Elsewhere during his presser, Kanaani was asked to comment on Iran’s rights in the Persian Gulf Arash natural gas field, to which he said Tehran prefers to keep the issue out of the media and resolve it through dialog with Kuwait.

“The issue was raised in the meetings between the two (Iranian and Kuwaiti) foreign ministers, and discussions were held in Geneva in this regard,” he said.

He highlighted Iran’s policy of developing friendly relations with neighboring countries, saying that publicizing the technical issues concerning the gas field will only result in more complications.

“Technical discussions in this regard have been held during a time span and there are technical and legal considerations that we will continue in this framework,” the Foreign Ministry spokesman added.

Zionist regime threatening Lebanon

Regarding the reports of the Zionist regime's message to Lebanon and the threat to this country, he clarified, "The Lebanese authorities announced what was related to Lebanon."

The Zionist regime either does not understand its complex situation or is trying to buy time, he said, adding that every day that the regime continues to fight, it not only hammers new nails into the coffin of its soldiers but also into the coffin of the Zionist regime.

He also said that this regime is not faced with good choices and made a strategic mistake and chose war, and made a bigger mistake and continued the war.

Qatar, Turkiye talks with Hamas

Regarding the negotiations between Turkey and Qatar with Hamas for the post-war era, he said that Iran is in contact with all parties regarding the Palestinian issue. In the issue, the first priority is to end the war crime against Gaza. "Dealing with secondary issues is a deviation, especially the solutions proposed by the United States."
