Rezaei, who is the head of the Supreme Council of Economic Coordination for the three branches of the Iranian government, made the reaction on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Friday.
He shared his post a day after the 6th Arab-Russian Cooperation Forum issued a statement at the end of their meeting in Morocco on three Iranian islands of Bumusa, the Greater Tunb and the Lesser Tunb. The statement voiced support for peaceful solutions to resolve what the participants called a conflict between Iran and the UAE over the islands.
“We have repeatedly said that the three islands are not negotiable. The continuation of excessive demands by the UAE is not in its interest and will have consequences. Russia’s unfriendly interference over Iran’s territorial integrity should not be repeated,” Rezaei said in his tweet.
He also said that the three Iranian islands “are not the Crimean Peninsula”, in reference to a 2014 referendum whereby Crimea separated from Ukraine and joined Russia.
In a phone call with his Russian counterpart on Friday, Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian also said that the Islamic Republic will not compromise with any side on its territorial integrity and sovereignty.
