Atwan, who is the editor-in-chief of Arabic digital news and opinion website Rai al-Youm, has published an article about Israel’s killing of journalists covering developments in the Gaza Strip, the occupied West Bank and Lebanon since the regime unleashed its war on Gaza on October 7.
According to a report by the IRNA Persian service on Saturday, he has said that reporters and camerapersons have been targeted by the Israeli regime despite the fact that they wore clothes with a press sign and had agreed to regulations making it necessary for all parties to behave them impartially.
The Israeli regime, which is killing people in Gaza and is committing “ethnic cleaning” against them and have destroyed half of homes in the besieged territory during more than two months of war, stands in the first place in the world when it comes to violating the rights of journalists and killing them, with the aim of silencing them and turning off their cameras that cover all those crimes, the analyst said.
He also referred to the killing of civilians including children in Gaza as well as targeting schools, churches, mosques and hospitals there, saying that the Israeli regime is carrying out those measures with the US support.
The Rai al-Youm editor-in-chief stressed that the terrifying policy by Israel will not stop journalists from continuing their mission to reveal the regime’s crimes.
According to the Committee to Protect Journalists, CPJ, at least 64 journalists and media workers have been killed since the Gaza war began 71 days ago.
The latest media worker to fall victim to the Israeli war in Gaza is Al Jazeera cameraman Samer Abu Daqqa who succumbed to his injuries sustained in an Israeli drone strike in Khan Yunis on Friday.
