Brigadier General Majid Shoja said on Sunday that the border guard command of Khorasan Razavi province identified and handed over 16,000 illegal migrants to representatives of Afghanistan. This move was carried out to deal with the phenomenon of the illegal presence of foreign nationals in Iran, he noted.
Foreign nationals must enter Iran via official and legal entrance points, otherwise, they will face firm reactions, Shoja noted.
Around 328,000 Afghan migrants who illegally entered Iran during the first half of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21, 2023, to September 22, 2023) have been repatriated to their country through the border crossings of Khorasan Razavi province.
The northwestern province has a 302-kilometer common border with Afghanistan to the east. Taybad County, one of the main border points between the two countries, is located 225 kilometers southeast of Mashhad, the capital city of Razavi Khorasan province.
