Iran misses UNSC’s Palestine meeting after US delays visas

Tehran, IRNA – Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hossein Amirabdollahian says that the Iranian delegation is unable to attend the United Nations Security Council’s meeting on Palestine due to the United States' delay in issuing visas for Iranian diplomats.

The visas were issued at 1:00 a.m. local time today, making it impossible for the delegation to participate in the UNSC’s meeting scheduled for this morning, Amirabdollahian told IRNA on Wednesday

Commenting on the reasons for holding the meeting, he pointed out that all efforts to maintain the ceasefire in Gaza continue.

The Palestinian resistance movement, Hamas, should decide on the initiatives in this regard, he further noted.

Amirabdollahian went on to say that efforts are underway to reach a sustainable cease-fire so as to exchange all Palestinian captives for the Israeli regime's prisoners.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he said that Raisi’s visit to Ankara was supposed to take place, but the Iranian and Turkish presidents agreed to meet in a few days as today’s UNSC meeting on the Palestinian issue is of prime importance for the two sides.

Amirabdollahian also said that Iranian officials are constantly in contact with Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, who is acting as the mediator for the exchange of prisoners in the Gaza conflict.
