National Day of Fighting Global Arrogance: Iranians demand end to Gaza carnage

Tehran, IRNA – People of all strata took to the streets across Iran on Saturday morning to commemorate the National Day of Fighting Global Arrogance and the National Day of Students which are celebrated annually on November 4.

The rallies kicked off in the capital, Tehran, and hundreds of cities and towns across the country at 9:00 a.m. local time (0530 GMT).

The Islamic Development Coordination Council, in a statement read out on behalf of the participants at the end of the march, demanded an immediate ceasefire in the occupied territories and condemned the criminal policies of the United States in supporting the Zionist regime’s war on the Gaza Strip.

“We tell the US, Britain, and France that the Axis of Resistance is not limited to Gaza and Palestine,” it said, pledging that all options would be on the table if the brutal Israeli bombings and killings of the oppressed people of Gaza do not come to an end.

The statement also called on Muslim and independent countries to denounce the Zionist regime’s atrocious crimes and genocide against Palestinians and sever their relations with the regime.

Iranians commemorate November 4 annually by gathering outside the former US embassy in Tehran and chanting “Down with the US” and “Down with Israel”.

On November 4, 1979, Iranian students stormed and took over the US embassy, also known in Iran as the “Den of Espionage,” revealing confidential documents that proved US attempts to topple the newly-established Islamic Republic.

The US embassy takeover came a year after the US-backed regime of Shah in Iran killed a number of students who were protesting against the regime, which in turn came 14 years after the Shah exiled Imam Khomeini over protesting against the diplomatic immunity granted to Americans residing in Iran.
