Kanaani expressed condolences to the people and government of Kazakhstan as well as the families of the victims over the incident in the Karaganda region.
According to Kazakhstan’s Ministry for Emergency Situations, at least 32 people were killed and 14 others remained unaccounted for following the fire. 252 people were working at the mine.
The blaze was caused by a methane gas explosion, Kazakhstan’s Kazinform News Agency reported.
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev called the incident a “tragedy” and declared Sunday a national day of mourning.
