Israeli woman released by Hamas says she was ‘treated gently’

Tehran, IRNA - An elderly Israeli woman, who was released overnight by Hamas, has said she was treated “gently” by members of the resistance movement during her two-week captivity in Gaza.

Yocheved Lifshitz, 85, was one of two Israeli women freed late on Monday. She was among hundreds of Israelis who were captured during Hamas’ surprise military blitz against the Israeli regime on October 7.

Lifshitz said she was led through “a network of tunnels” after she was captured, and then was offered a meal, according to Al Jazeera.

She emphasized that Hamas members ensured that she and other captives had access to food and medicine while keeping a close eye on their well-being.

She said her captors ensured her that they were Muslims and had no intention of causing her any harm.

“We were offered the same food that Hamas members had,” the elderly woman recounted. “They were attentive to our needs and provided us with the required medications.”

Lifshitz said a doctor would pay them a visit every two or three days to assess their overall health and give them medicines if needed.

Hamas also released an Israeli American mother and daughter on Friday. Both cases were mediated by Qatar, which has close relations with the Gaza-based resistance movement.
