Head of Hormozgan Fisheries Department Masoud Barani told IRNA on Tuesday that based on the prediction of the Persian Gulf and Sea of Oman Ecology Research Institute, the shrimp harvest during the current harvest season in the province is expected to surpass 1,500 tons.
Referring to harvesting 321,000 tons of aquatic animals, Barani added that over 35,000 fishermen and 4,500 fishing boats are active in Hormozgan province as Iran's fishing hub, which shows the role of fishing in the life of people residing in the province.
Due to its coastline as well as the variety of species, and the variety of fishing methods, Hormozgan province has 40% of the fishing in southern Iran.
