"According to estimates, it is possible to import up to 60,000 cars by the end of this (calendar) year, and imports of these products will continue," Mehdi Zeyghami told reporters on Saturday.
Zeyghami said that measures were being taken to offer companies foreign exchange to import cars, adding that some companies have submitted requests to purchase up to 40,000 cars.
“These vehicles will be imported in various segments, and companies receive their foreign exchange allocations to proceed with the imports,” he added.
Zeyghami also pointed out that over 200 million euros in foreign exchange have been allocated for car imports, and the process will be expedited following a recent meeting with the Central Bank.
Furthermore, the import of electric cars will begin in the coming days, he said, adding that those vehicles will initially be supplied for use as taxis before being made available to the general public.
