Amirabdollahian met with his counterparts from Lebanon, Turkiye, Tunisia and Qatar on Wednesday on the sidelines of an urgent meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on the ongoing war in Gaza.
Amirabdollahian’s talks with his counterparts focused on the Gaza war, with the top diplomat highlighting the total blockade of the Israeli regime on Gaza as well as forcing Palestinians to evacuate their homes in the northern Gaza Strip amid a looming ground invasion by the regime. The Tuesday Israeli airstrike on al-Ahli Arab hospital in central Gaza that took the lives of hundreds of people was also the focus of the talks.
In his meeting with Qatar’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs Soltan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi, the top Iranian diplomat lashed out at the United States for its support of the Zionist regime despite its brutal attacks against people in Gaza.
The Zionist regime has suffered a heavy defeat by Palestinian resistance groups, and the US is currently reviving the regime, Amirabdollahian said.
“While the regime is brutally attacking the population in Gaza, the US Secretary of State attends the Zionists’ operation room and at the same time he advises others to exercise restraint,” the Iranian foreign minister said, referring to the recent trips by Antony Blinken to Israel where he voiced Washington’s “unwavering support” for the regime.
Amirabdollahian also referred to the Wednesday visit by US President Joe Biden to Tel Aviv, saying that the visit, which takes place following all the crimes and “genocide” committed by the Zionist regime against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, shows that the US is fulling standing by the regime and is supporting its crimes.
The Qatari diplomat said on his part that the West’s support for Israel is unfortunately not limited to politics, and described the support as a green light for the regime to continue its crimes.
He said that the UN Human Rights Council should exert pressure so that the Israeli regime’s crimes against the Palestinian people are brought to an end immediately.
Iran has stepped up diplomatic efforts aimed at supporting the Palestinians in Gaza since the Israeli regime began its war there on October 7. Last week, Amirabdollahian took a tour of four regional countries, namely Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Qatar, as part of those efforts.
