Iran FM calls for opening humanitarian corridor to send aid to Gaza

Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has called for the opening of a humanitarian corridor in the war-hit Gaza Strip where the civilian population is subjected to relentless Israeli airstrikes and a full blockade by the regime.

The top Iranian diplomat said on Monday that the corridor should be opened as soon as possible in order for the civilians in Gaza to receive humanitarian assistance.

He made those comments in a phone conversation with Malaysian Foreign Minister Zambry Abdul Kadir, saying that an end to “war crimes against the civilians in Gaza and the humanitarian siege” is the most important issue at the current time.

“The continued war crimes against the civilians and genocide by the Zionist regime have no boundaries. This regime has destroyed a children’s hospital in Gaza, using phosphorous bombs and massacred children hospitalized there,” Amirabdollahian told his Malaysian counterpart.

Zambry Abdul Kadir, on his part, condemned the killing of women and children, and stressed the need for the people in Gaza to receive food, water, electricity and medicines.

Both ministers announced their readiness to take part in a meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Gaza.

Time running out for political solution to Gaza war

The Iranian foreign minister meanwhile discussed the ongoing developments in the Gaza Strip with his Pakistani counterpart Jalil Abbas Jilani on the phone on Monday.

Amirabdollahian said that time is running out for a political solution to the conflict in Gaza, warning that “the expansion of the war to other fronts is nearing the stage which is unavoidable.”

He said that the “child killer Zionist regime has resorted to murdering children and civilians” because it is unable to counter resistance forces.

The regime’s attempts to migrate people from the Gaza Strip is another “crime pursued by Tel Aviv”, the Iranian minister said.

Jalil Abbas Jilani said on his part that the OIC member states should cooperate in order to facilitate an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and open connection corridors to the blockaded territory.

He also said that the Israeli regime’s move to force people in the northern Gaza Strip to go to southern parts amounts to a war crime and genocide of the Palestinian nation.

The defensive response of the Palestinians should never be regarded as equal as the actions by the Zionist regime, the Pakistani foreign minister said, adding that the Palestinian people have the right to decide their own fate based on international law and UN Security Council resolutions.
