-- Iran to play role of gas hub: Owji
Iran is the safest and cheapest route for energy transit to international waters, said Iran’s oil minister on Thursday, underscoring that the global energy market cannot deny Iran’s key role. In addition to its rich energy resources, Iran is located at a suitable geographic position, connecting Asia to Europe, and the only land route between the Caspian Sea and the Persian Gulf, stated Javad Owji, adding that some countries around Iran are oil and gas exporters and some importers, and such conditions make it easier for Iran to play the role of an energy hub.
Owji, who addressed a specialized session of the 6th Russian Energy Week International Forum in Moscow said that considering its natural resources and northern neighbors, Iran is the leading player of energy trade in the Middle East and can turn into a gas hub.
-- Iran’s sponge iron production rises almost 6%
Production of sponge iron in Iran increased by about six percent during the first half of the current Iranian year (March 21–September 22), compared to the related figure of the past year.
The sponge production during the six months to September 22 was about 18.85 million tons, 5.9% up from last year’s output of 17.8 million tons.
-- Four Iranian books in 2023 White Raven catalogue in Munich
The 2023 White Raven catalogue, curated by the International Youth Library in Munich, was unveiled, featuring four Persian language titles from Iran. Released on October 12, the catalogue comprises 200 children’s and young adult books in 39 languages, from 57 countries.
The four Persian titles are: ‘What Colour is the Moonlight? What Colour is the Sunlight?’, written by Parvin Dolatabadi and illustrated by Salimeh Babakhan, published by Ketab-e Taak; ‘Two Planets’ by Masoud Qarebaghi, published by Fatemi Publications; ‘The Tale of the Winds’, by Reza Abdi, published by Resm-e Koodaki; and ‘Siavashnameh,’ a rewriting by Leila Mirzaei, from Khordadnameh
Publications.

-- Economy Minister, IsDB Chief Weigh Plans to Cement Bilateral Cooperation
Iran’s Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Ehsan Khandouzi has met with President of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser in Morocco to discuss the latest status of joint projects with Iran.
The meeting was a continuation of the intensive talks of the past two years between Iran and the Islamic Development Bank aimed at promoting the joint programs of the two parties.
-- Qatar, Iran Emphasize Expanding Banking-Monetary Cooperation
The top bankers of Iran Muhammad Reza Farzin and his Qatari counterpart Sheikh Bandar bin Mohammed bin Saoud Al-Thani on Saturday stressed the need to boost bilateral cooperation in the banking and monetary fields.
Highlighting the development of banking cooperation and joint investment after the transfer of $6 billion of Iranian funds to the account of Iranian banks based in Qatar, the two sides explored avenues for the expansion of banking ties using these financial resources.
-- IME Weekly Trade Tops $730mn
Iran Mercantile Exchange (IME) on Saturday reported that over 3,064,574 tonnes of commodities with a total trading value of nearly 733 million were traded on its physical market in the last week.
The IME’s report said that over 2,567,404 tonnes of metal and mineral commodities, including 1,229,740 tonnes of cement, 702,000 tonnes of iron ore, 47,519 tonnes of steel, 146,000 tonnes of sponge iron, 8,410 tonnes of copper, 6,380 tonnes of aluminum, 1,185 tonnes of zinc, 225 tonnes of cast iron and 200 tonnes of molybdenum concentrate with total value of $468 million were traded in the IME’s markets in the last week.

Iran's national volleyball team have failed to secure their place among the world's top volleyball teams and earn their ticket to the 2024 Olympic Games so far and the federation’s top officials are going to take advantage of the experienced stars to keep their hope alive.
Team Melli suffered six defeats in 2024 Olympic Games qualifiers out of seven matches. Iran, headed by Behrouz Ataei, lost to Germany 3-0, Ukraine 3-0, Czech Republic 3-1, Italy, 3-0, Brazil 3-0 and Cuba 3-2 in Pool A held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and also defeated Qatar 3-1 and finished in seventh place out of eight teams.

The International Youth Library in Munich has selected four books from Iran for this year’s edition of the White Ravens catalogue.
The Iranian books introduced in the catalogue include “The Tale of the Winds” written by Reza Abdi, “What Color is the Moonlight? What Color is the Sunlight?” written by Parvin Dowlatabadi and illustrated by Salimeh Babakhan, “Two Planets” written and illustrated by Masoud Gharahbaghi, and “I Come from Shahnameh: Siyavash” written by Leila Mirzaie and illustrated by Mina Abdi.
-- Qatar committed to transferring Iran’s freed funds through SWIFT, LCs: chief banker
Sheikh Bandar bin Mohammed bin Saoud Al-Thani, the governor of Qatar Central Bank has said that Qatar completely adheres to all its obligations with Iran and there is no obstacle in the way of transferring the Islamic Republic’s freed funds through SWIFT and Letter of credit (LC).
The Qatari official made the remarks in a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad-Reza Farzin on the sidelines of the annual meeting of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Morocco.
