Iran, Pakistan, Sri Lanka seeking to expand financial ties

Tehran, IRNA – The Governor of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI), Mohammad-Reza Farzin, has emphasized the importance of strengthening financial and banking cooperation between Iran, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.

During the annual meeting of the International Monetary Fund in Morocco, Farzin held separate discussions with Jameel Ahmed, Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, and Nandalal Weerasinghe, Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.

According to the CBI, Farzin stressed that enhancing monetary and banking exchanges, thereby fostering trade and economic collaborations with Pakistan and Sri Lanka, are key objectives for these three countries.

The governor of the Central Bank of Pakistan, for his part, called for the expansion of economic and banking cooperation between the two neighboring states, describing the boost of trade exchanges along with the progress of banking and financial relations between Tehran and Islamabad as their priority.

The governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka also pointed to the growth of trade exchanges between Tehran and Colombo in recent years, noting that his country has no limitations in developing monetary and banking cooperation with the Islamic Republic.
