Headlines in Iranian English-language dailies on Oct 12

Tehran, IRNA – The following headlines appeared in English-language newspapers in the Iranian capital on Thursday, October 12, 2023.

– Arab youths heartened by Hamas’ military superiority

It has become clearer that Hamas’ military superiority over Israel has sparked a movement among Arab youth, which could potentially bring the end of Israel’s influence within certain Muslim governments. After 70 years of Israeli aggression and mass killings against Palestinians, Hamas, for the first time, challenged Israeli arrogance through a sensitive operation aimed at freeing their land. A groundswell of support for the Palestinian cause has been witnessed across Arab countries, permeating mosques, football stadiums, and urban centers. This surge in popular solidarity has generated a palpable atmosphere that calls for intergovernmental unity.

– Global Support for Gaza

Since the beginning of the great conflict between Israel and Hamas on Saturday, many cities across the world have been the scene of pro-Palestinian rallies. The demonstrators are calling for the international community to break its silence on Israeli crimes and support Palestinians. The new conflict — which was started by the Hamas resistance group from the besieged Gaza Strip — is in fact a reaction to decades of crimes committed by the Israeli regime against Palestinians across the occupied territories. Protestors are angry about decades of violation of Palestinians’ rights by the Israeli regime, the continuing occupation of the Palestinians’ lands, and crimes committed by the regime against Palestinians amid the international silence.

– Iran concerned by new wave of Afghan refugees after quake

The chairman of Iran’s Migration Organization voiced Tehran’s concerns over the potential new influx of Afghan refugees following a recent earthquake in Afghanistan. Speaking at the 74th session of the Executive Committee of the High Commissioner’s Program (ExCom), Abdollah Mobini said that the recent earthquake that hit the city of Herat in Afghanistan has caused many people to lose their homes, which raised concerns within Iran regarding a surge of new immigrants entering the country, IRNA wrote.

– Gaza holocaust

With Israel’s colossal intelligence defeat during the Hamas weekend attack on the occupied territories, the regime seems to be bent on giving what Netanyahu has touted as a “historic” response to the Palestinian resistance. Based on what’s currently unfolding in the Gaza strip, this could very much mean that a potential genocide of Gazans has been put on the table by Israeli leaders. Israel is currently bombarding Gaza with no letup. The regime, which has imprisoned Gazans in the world’s largest open-air jail for the past 16 years, has tried to “clamp down on Hamas” by killing and maiming civilians, including women and children. Hospitals, mosques, residential buildings and schools have been reduced to rubble in cities that were once vibrant with crowds of impoverished, but high-spirited people. Now, citizens must scour through the ruins of what was once called home, in a bid to find their loved ones.

– Iran pushing for humanitarian aid for besieged Gaza

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has intensified his diplomatic efforts to break the cruel siege on the people of Gaza. Amirabdollahian underlined the need for delivering humanitarian aid to the besieged people of Gaza. This was discussed in the phone conversation between Amirabdollahian and his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shoukry. Amir Abdollahian called Shoukry to discuss and exchange views on the most important issues of interest to the two countries, especially the latest developments in Palestine and the war crimes committed by the Zionist regime against the Palestinian people in Gaza, according to the Iranian foreign ministry.

– Who is the real terrorist?

As Western leaders and media react to the current cycle of violence in the Gaza Strip and the Israeli settlements near Gaza, the focus has been widely pinned on the Palestinian resistance and the alleged crimes it has committed. Some Western leaders have gone as far as rebuking countries who have declined to condemn Hamas for the latest bout of violence. The approach appears to be aimed at implying that the oppressed is the real monster, and the oppressor is being categorized as the victim of the latest conflict.

– US, Zionist leaders call for genocide against Gaza

As residents of Gaza awoke on Wednesday morning, following another night of Israeli bombardment, they bore witness to what was left of Al-Karama complex, an area in the besieged enclave that contained several residential towers housing hundreds of families. The Zionist military dropped 100 bombs on the neighborhood in two hours on Tuesday night, as people were inside their homes, Palestinian eyewitnesses have said.

– Iranians to rally nationwide Friday to support Gazans

Iranian cities will on Friday be a scene of street rallies in condemnation of the Israeli regime’s savage attacks against the besieged Gaza Strip, like many other cities across the Muslim community and the wider world. Mohsen Mahmoudi, the deputy head of Iran’s Coordination Council for Islamic Propagation, said Wednesday the “savageries of the blood-thirsty Zionists” including the attacks on defenseless women and children, destruction of houses and the total blockade imposed on the strip, has exposed their nature.

– More powerful earthquake hits Herat

Another strong earthquake shook western Afghanistan on Wednesday morning after an earlier one killed more than 2,000 people and flattened whole villages in Herat province in what was one of the most destructive quakes in the country’s recent history. The magnitude 6.3 earthquake on Wednesday was about 28 kilometers (17 miles) outside Herat, the provincial capital, and 10 kilometers (6 miles) deep, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. It triggered a landslide that blocked the main Herat-Torghondi highway, Information Ministry spokesman Abdul Wahid Rayan said.
