FM Amirabdollahian wrote on his X account late on Monday that following his recent talks with acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sudan Ali Al-Sadiq Ali on the sidelines of a recent summit of the Non-Aligned Movement in Baku, Tehran and Khartoum decided to resume diplomatic ties and today the process has been finalized.
The two countries issued a joint statement on Monday, a copy of which was sent to IRNA, which says the resumption of ties follows an agreement on the same days after a prolonged pursuit by officials from both sides.
Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the two sides agreed to enhance cooperation in various areas to fulfill the interests of both nations and ensure regional security and stability.
The statement further emphasized that the resumed ties will be based on mutual respect for sovereignty, serving common interests, and promoting peaceful coexistence.
The necessary measures to open embassies in their respective capital cities are expected to be taken in the near future.
