Tehran, IRNA – The following headlines appeared in English-language newspapers in the Iranian capital on Monday, October 9, 2023.

** IRAN DAILY

-- Iran receives $43m in damages from US government

Iran said it has received $43 million in damages from the United States, under Case No. A15 of the Iran-United States Claims Tribunal.
The Center for International Legal Affairs of the Legal Vice Presidency of the Iranian President said in a statement that the amount was deposited into the country’s bank account in The Hague, the Netherlands.

--  Iran’s five-month steel products up 8%

Iranian steelmakers cast 6.68 million tons of steel products during the first five months of the current Iranian year (March 21-August 22), registering an eight percent rise compared to the corresponding figure of last year, which was 6.18 million tons.
According to figures by the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO), the steel products included round bars, steel beams, coils, profiles, sheets and pipes.

--  Iran, D-8 discuss cooperation on energy developments

Iranian Energy Minister Ali-Akbar Mehrabian held a meeting with Secretary General of the Developing Eight Organization for Economic Cooperation (D-8) Isiaka Abdulqadir Imam on energy developments around the globe.
Mehrabian described D-8 as a very important organization that was established by influential countries which created great effects in the development of relations between these countries in different periods.

--  Tehran Theater to Stage ‘Medea’ by Euripides

An ancient Greek tragedy ‘Medea’ by Euripides will be staged as a loose adaptation at Neauphle-le-Chateau Theater in Tehran in October. The play directed by Baran Shadpouri is based upon the myth of Jason and Medea, first produced in 431 BC as part of a trilogy; the two other plays have not survived.
The plot centers on the actions of Medea, a former princess of the kingdom of Colchis, and the wife of Jason; she finds her position in the Greek world threatened as Jason leaves her for a Greek princess of Corinth.

--  Official: Iran to Build Over 10,000-MW Renewable Power Plants

Head of Iran’s Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization (SATBA) Mahmoud Kamani announced on Sunday that the country will construct renewable power plants with teh capacity to generate 10,500 megawatts of electricity through financing scheme. Kamani said efforts will be made to get licenses needed for the construction of the renewable power plants through the financing scheme.
The deputy energy minister went on to say that these power plants will be constructed in 2024 and 2025 after getting the necessary legal licenses.

--  Exports From Kermanshah Customs Top $1.4bn

Head of the Kermanshah Province Customs Supervision Department Ali Asghar Abbaszadeh has said that the exports of goods from Kermanshah’s customs have hit over $1.4 billion of goods in the first six months of the current fiscal (March 21-September 22).
Abbaszadeh said that $1,425,896,227 of goods with a weight value of 3,564,281 tons were exported from the province, showing an increase of 13% in weight and 9% in value compared to the same period in the last year.

-- Iran to unveil brand-new, cutting-edge homegrown air defense system

 Iran’s Defense Minister Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Ashtiani has noted that Tehran intends to unveil a brand-new cutting-edge air defense system in the near future. The minister said on Saturday that only Iranian military experts were involved in the design and production of the domestically produced military equipment.

General Ashtiani noted that the development of this technology is consistent with the Defense Ministry’s policy of surprising the adversary and developing several scenarios for potential future struggles.

--  Tabriz International Book Fair to be held after four-year hiatus

The Tabriz International Book Fair is set to make a return this year after a four-year hiatus. 

The 18th edition of the book fair, along with the first National Fair on Modesty and Hijab, is scheduled to take place in Tabriz, the capital of East Azarbaijan province in the middle of November, the Director-General of Culture and Islamic Guidance of the province has announced. 

--  Prehistorical water system uncovered at legendry Sialk Hills

An archaeological team has uncovered a prehistorical water system during excavations in Sialk Hills, located near Kashan, central Iran. The team co-led by Iranian archaeologists Jebrael Nokandeh and Javad Hosseinzadeh recently found an earthen waterway during its second survey conducted on legendry Tepe Sialk (aka Sialk Hills), whose oldest settlements are estimated to date to around 6000–5500 BC. The Sialk ziggurat was built around 3000 BC.

Initial estimates suggest the earthen waterway may belong to the latest settlements established at the site.
