The Iranian chess players faced off against chess players from South Korea in the final round of competitions in Hangzhou on Saturday.
The Iranian team had been leading the table going into the final and they needed to defeat South Korea to secure Iran’s first-ever gold in Asian Games chess history.
Pouya Idani became the first Iranian chess player to defeat his opponent from South Korea. Subsequently, Parham Maghsoodloo, Mohammad Amin Tabatabaei, and Bardia Daneshvar defeated their rivals, leading Iran to a decisive 4-0 victory against South Korea and securing their championship title.
