Iran wushu athlete Mansourian bags bronze at Asian Games 2023

Hangzhou, IRNA – Iranian wushu athlete Shahrbanoo Mansourian has won a bronze medal at the women's Sanda 60kg category of the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, after losing her semi-final match to Xiaowei WU from the host country.

In her third appearance at different Asian Games, Mansourian was also stopped prior to reaching the final match; so, she succeeded in standing third.

This is Mansourian’s third consecutive loss at various stages of the Asian Games in front of her Chinese opponents. The Iranian wushu athlete lost to a Chinese rival at the 2014 Incheon tournament and also suffered another defeat in the face of a Chinese opponent in Jakarta in 2018.

Another Iranian female wushu athlete Elahe Mansourian, who reached the final of the 52kg weight class, will face off against a contestant from China on Thursday.

In the men’s Sanda 60kg category of the 2023 Asian Games, Iranian wushu athlete Shoja’ Panahi reached the final match after his Philippine rival Gideon Fred Padua’s absence in the semi-final. Panahi will compete with the winner of a match between rivals from China and South Korea on Thursday.

Three other representatives from the Iranian men’s Sanda team are going to compete with their rivals in various weight classes in the semi-finals soon.
