Iran Ambassador to Brazil Hossein Gharibi said in an exclusive interview with the IRNA published on Monday that the direct trade volume was estimated at about two billion dollars and the indirect one stood at less than three billion dollars in 2021, while in 2022 the official figure of direct trade stood at about five billion dollars and totally with indirect trade it was estimated over six billion dollars.
He also noted that the main items of bilateral trade are agricultural products. He discussed the issue in his meetings with Brazilian officials, including his recent convention with Brazil’s first vice president.
If the two countries succeed in materializing the goal of diversifying trade fields because of tremendous capacities in other areas, the move can easily bring the mutual trade volume to 10 billion dollars per annum, the ambassador hoped.
Touching upon the meetings between high-ranking officials of the two countries and the issue of organizing result-oriented sessions, he said that preliminary measures are needed in order to pave the way for preparing a framework and roadmap following official meetings and conveying them to other sectors.
In 2023, the joint economic commission of Iran and Brazil is scheduled to be held after seven years, Gharibi said, adding that the weekly sessions are being held to prepare agendas and documents of this round of the economic commission’s meeting.
Following this round of economic commission meeting as well as Brazilian foreign minister’s future visit to Tehran, both sides would be able to pave the ground for their presidents’ trips in a bid to take a big step to enhance bilateral relations.
