President Raisi made the remarks in New York on Wednesday local time while answering to questions from foreign media.
Raisi had left for New York, the United States, on Monday to attend and address the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly on September 18 to 26. The Iranian president departed New York for Tehran on Wednesday to end his three-day stay there.
About the recent exchange of prisoners between Iran and US which led to the release of Iranian assets in South Korea, the president thanked Qatar and Oman for playing a constructive role in this process as mediators.
Meanwhile, he said, the United States and Europe have to be faithful to their commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) which is a landmark nuclear deal reached between Tehran and the six world powers in July 2015, but Washington left it unilaterally in May 2018.
In his remarks, the president said the US and Europe should show goodwill, remain committed, and lift anti-Iran sanctions; and this is the solution that can pave the way for a good agreement.
Asked about the details of the recent visit of the Russian defense minister to Iran, the president replied that Tehran and Moscow have had technological, scientific, political, economic and military cooperation and they will continue such relations.
Regarding tension between two Iranian neighbors, Azerbaijan and Armenia, Raisi said such tensions are not acceptable; meanwhile, they can be solved through dialogue.
Islamic Republic of Iran can act as mediator to remove the tensions among the neighboring states, the president said underlining that Iran will never accept any change in geopolitical positions in the region.
Elsewhere, he referred to Iran’s relations with Egypt and said that Tehran welcomes the resumption of ties with Cairo and there is no problem to do so.
Answering to a question about Iran’s nuclear program, the president said the Islamic Republic has stressed over and over the peaceful nature of its nuclear activities.
He went on to say that Iran will continue enrichment till it is necessary for peaceful activities.
Iran has good cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, Raisi noted adding that the IAEA has confirmed 16 times the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear industry.
On the regional developments, the president said the people in the region hate the Zionist regime of Israel due to its crimes committed in Palestine.
About the Resistance movement in the region, President Raisi said the Resistance groups have been formed for protecting the region.
Referring to the Jan 2020 assassination of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Qods Force commander General Qassem Soleimani by the US forces in Iraq, the president said such a murder was a treason against humanity.
