US sanctions hampering delivery of aid to refugees in Iran: Official

Tehran, IRNA – Chairman of Iran's Migration Organization Abdollah Mobini has said that the US unilateral sanctions are hampering the delivery of aid to Afghan refugees in Iran.

During a meeting with the United Nations Resident Coordinator in the Islamic Republic of Iran Stefan Priesner in Tehran on Sunday, Mobini discussed the new approach of the organization in the field of migration management and also how to interact with international organizations in this field.

Referring to the insignificant financial support of the international and humanitarian organizations in the field of refugees, he said that the Islamic Republic of Iran is determined to reform the country's asylum system in accordance with national capacities and international support.

He underlined that the US' cruel and unilateral sanctions on Iran have negative impacts on the lives of foreign nationals in Iran, especially in the fields of health care.

Priesner, for his part, thanked the Islamic Republic of Iran for its generous hosting of refugees and providing them with services in the fields of education, health, and treatment.

Expressing his satisfaction with the formation of the National Organization for Migration, he said that reforming the asylum system in Iran to identify who is a real asylum seeker is very necessary.

He called for the cooperation of the National Organization for Migration with the representative offices of international organizations to facilitate visits to the provinces and field surveys of refugee needs.
