Iran’s defense minister rebuked the US government’s seizure of one million barrels of Iranian crude, warning that the Islamic Republic is fully capable of retaliating “on a larger scale” in due time.
The US Department of Justice confirmed on September 8 that it had seized the Marshall Islands-flagged tanker carrying Iranian oil, named Suez Rajan, and its cargo of 980,000 barrels of crude oil off the coast of Texas.
-- Raeisi meets families of security forces killed during last year’s unrest
Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi met with the families of security forces killed during mass protests sparked by the death of Mahsa Amini last year.
Raeisi’s meetings were held during a visit to the northeastern city of Mashhad on Thursday and Friday, ahead of the Sept. 16 anniversary of Amini’s death, which caused months of protests across the country.

-- Iran sends humanitarian aid to flood-hit Libya
The Iranian Red Crescent Society said on Friday that it has sent 40 tons of humanitarian aid to flood-stricken Libya to help the victims.
The head of the Iranian organization, Pir-Hossein Kolivand, said the aid package includes tents, blankets, mats, medicine, and foodstuffs. He also said that three rescue teams have been dispatched to the African country, which hit by devastating floods.

-- Iran Invites Saudi Arabia to Join in Registering Iftar
Iran has invited Saudi Arabia to join the Islamic Republic in a proposed initiative for the global registration of the “intangible cultural heritage” of Iftar, the fast-breaking evening meal of Muslims in the holy month of Ramadan.
The invitation was extended by Ali Darabi, the deputy minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts of Iran, during a meeting with Saudi assistant minister of Culture, Rakan bin Ibrahim Al-Touq, in Riyadh on Thursday.

Iranian film ‘Sea Boys’ has been screened at the International Children’s Film Festival of Kerala (ICFFK-2023) in India. Dirtected by Afshin Hashemi, the film was showcased during its fourteenth international appearance.
‘Sea Boys’ narrates the story of two boys on two sides of the country. The one living in the north has lost his father, while the other living in the south has lost his mother. Iranian movie ‘Children of Heaven’ by Majid Majidi was also screened in the classic films section of the festival.

Head of the Anzali Free Zone Organization Akbar Niazi has said that Iranians’ presence at the 23rd China International Fair for Investment & Trade (CIFIT) led to the signing of two cooperation agreements with Chinese private firms to invest in manufacturing electric bicycles and motorcycles and new-generation software for production line machines in the Anzali Free Trade Zone.
Niazi said that the Anzali Free Zone played a key role in signing some cooperation agreements between China’s Fujian Province and Iranian free trade zones, he said, noting that the two cooperation agreements between Anzali FTZ and Chinese companies can pave the way for diversifying the basket of export commodities in northern Iran.

The Iranian drama “Paper Dream” directed by Ali Atshani has been selected as the opening film of the International Thai Film Festival (ITFF) 2023. The movie will be screened at Bangkok Art & Culture Centre in Thailand on September 20.
“Paper Dream” narrates the poignant tale of a young man living in seclusion due to his albinism. However, his life takes an unexpected turn when a cunning young girl exploits his pure-hearted nature and transforms him into a social media influencer. As their bond deepens, he finds himself captivated by her.
-- Iran becomes 3rd top oil producer among OPEC members: report
Iran continued to increase its oil production in August to reach three million barrels per day (bpd) and stand at the third place among OPEC top producers, according to figures released in the organization’s latest monthly report. OPEC data showed that Iran’s oil output increased by 143,000 bpd or five percent in August compared to production figures reported in July, Shana reported.
The figures showed that Iran had regained its position as the third largest oil producer in OPEC in August behind Saudi Arabia and Iraq. Iran posted the largest increase in oil production in OPEC last month, as the country is exempt from output cuts introduced by the alliance to help boost international oil prices.
-- DOE calls for FAO’s aid to restore Zagros Forest
The head of the Department of Environment (DOE), Ali Salajeqeh, in a meeting with the assistant director-general of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), AbdulHakim Elwaer, asked for FAO's contribution to reviving Zagros Forest.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the international conference on battling sand and dust storms which was held in Tehran on September 9-10. Zagros Forest is among the most important natural resources of Iran, as it constitutes 40 percent of the country's jungles, and plays an important role in the production of a large part of the country’s freshwater.
