They discussed various issues, including the two countries’ cooperation on making vaccines.
The meeting took place on Thursday ahead of a summit by the Group of 77 plus China (G77+China), set to be held on September 15-16 in the Cuban capital.
The group is made up of 77 developing countries in Asia, Africa as well as Central and South America. It was first formed in 1964 and has since grown to more than 130 members.
The Havana summit will tackle "core" development issues, China’s Xinhua news agency reported Cuban Foreign Affairs Minister Bruno Rodriguez as saying on Wednesday.
Held under the banner "Current development challenges: the role of science, technology and innovation," the summit is set to issue a final declaration that will highlight goals of the G77 and will address the needs of developing nations, Rodriguez added.
