Joint economic commissions following up Tehran-Baku accords

Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mehrdad Bazrpash has expressed satisfaction with a meeting between heads of the joint economic commission of Iran and Azerbaijan in Astara, declaring improvement of Tehran-Baku relations.

Bazrpash, who is also chairman of the joint economic commission, held a phone conversation with Azerbaijan’s Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev, the IRNA reported on Wednesday.

Bazrpash and Mustafayev held talks on joint projects as well as the issues, which were raised in the previous session of the economic commission, during the phone call.

The Iranian minister emphasized respect for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and other countries in the region, underlining Iran’s opposition to foreign intervention in regional states. We believe that regional challenges should be resolved by neighboring countries, he said, adding that the military presence of ultra-regional forces is dangerous for the region.

Iran is utilizing its neighborhood policy with the aim of resolving tensions between Baku and Yerevan, he noted.

The Azerbaijani official, for his part, appreciated the follow-ups by the Iranian minister in order to bolster relations between the two states, saying that the relationship between Iran and Azerbaijan has been improved as a result of bilateral meetings and that economic exchanges have flourished as well.

Mustafayev also expressed hope that certain political misunderstandings between the two nations would be resolved as soon as possible.
