21 gas flares in southwest Iran to be turned off by March 2024: Oil Minister

Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s oil minister has declared that 21 gas flares in the east and west of the Karun River, situated in southwestern Iran, will be extinguished by the end of the Iranian current calendar year (March 21, 2024).

Owji made this announcement to reporters following a cabinet meeting in Tehran on Wednesday, adding that of the 52 gas flares in the Gachsaran, Marun, Rag Sefid, and Aghajari oil fields, 21 will be extinguished by the date.

The minister further added that by harnessing these gases, an additional 20 million cubic meters of natural gas – equivalent to a full phase of South Pars – will be incorporated into Iran’s natural gas production.

In addition to this, Owji also mentioned that the initial phase of the Persian Gulf Bid-Boland Gas Refinery is set to be inaugurated by the end of the current Iranian year.
