“All of our neighbors should pay attention to this point,” said Ali Nikzad, referring to the escalation of tensions between Azerbaijan and Armenia in the South Caucasus.
He also said Iran and Azerbaijan have a history of extensive cooperation with each other, and the Islamic Republic of Iran stands by Azerbaijan in difficult situations.
“Today, Baku’s authorities should pay attention to this good neighborliness and record of historical relations, and respect international borders,” he added.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Nikzad said the illegitimate Zionist regime has always tried to harm Iran in the aftermath of the glorious Islamic Revolution.
Therefore, he went on, “I advise all those falling down with the rope of this identityless regime to try to preserve bilateral relations based on cultural and religious commonalities, and respect the geopolitics of the region.”
The remarks come as tensions remain high along the Azerbaijan-Armenia border over the landlocked region of Nagorno-Karabakh.
In a phone conversation with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Saturday, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi reiterated Tehran's support for the territorial integrity of all regional countries, saying the Islamic Republic is ready to play an effective role in preventing new clashes and any geopolitical change in the disputed region.
