Issue of environment can cause all countries to unite and come together, said Ali Salajegheh late on Sunday while addressing the closing ceremony on International Conference on Combating Sand and Dust Storms in Tehran.
He said representatives of dozens of countries from around the world had the opportunity at the conference in Tehran to discuss environmental issues regardless of their political affiliations, Salajegheh, who also acts a deputy Iranian president, said.
In his remarks, the Iranian official called for formation of a convention on dust and sand storms at the United Nations.
Meanwhile, the UN Resident Coordinator for the Islamic Republic of Iran Stefan Priesner who was also present in the ceremony said dust and sand storm is beyond borders and political issues, adding that tackling issue needs comprehensive cooperation between all countries around the world.
The International Conference on Combating Sand and Dust Storms was held in the Iranian capital on September 9-10 with participation of representatives from more than 50 companies and 15 international organizations.
