-- China tops Iran’s export destination in March–August
Iran exported non-oil commodities valued at $5.6 billion to China during the first five months of the current Iranian year (March 21–August 22), more than any other business partner, the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) announced. IRICA also announced that exporting non-oil goods worth $7.1 billion to Iran, China was Iran’s second source of imports in the five month period.
Figures published by the Tehran Chamber of Commerce indicate that during the said period, $19.3 billion worth of non-oil commodities were exported from the country. Iraq and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were reportedly the second and third largest consumers of Iranian goods by importing $3.5 billion and $2.3 billion worth of products, respectively.
-- Iran, Russia can help resolve Caucasus conflict: Ex-envoy
Iran’s former ambassador to Azerbaijan and expert on the Caucasus affairs said that Iran and Russia can cooperate to help relieve the escalating tensions between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Mohsen Pakaein told ILNA that if Russians do not follow the path drawn for them by the US and Europe, they can, in cooperation with Iran, “help resolve this conflict in the interest of establishing peace in the region, which is in the interest of all”.
-- Iran’s ‘Motherless’ nominated at Wales Int’l Film Festival
The Iranian film, ‘Motherless,’ written and directed by Seyyed Morteza Fatemi, was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film category at the Wales International Film Festival.
Making its fifth appearance at international festivals, ‘Motherless’ has previously received three best film awards at the Dhaka International Film Festival 2022, Crossing the Screen Film Festival in England 2023, and the Bengaluru International Film Festival. It also secured the Best Director Award at the Rainbow London Film Festival

-- Iran Women Ice Hockey Team Runner-Up at EHL Tournament
The Iranian women’s ice hockey team ranked second place at the Emirates Hockey League (EHL) tournament held at Hili Fun City in Al Ain, Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The Iranian women’s ice hockey team lost to an Emirati team, Al Dhabi, 4-2 in the final match and stood in second place in the sporting event.
Iranian sportswomen reached the semi-finals by defeating opponents from the Philippines, Mexico, and the UAE.In the semi-finals, Iran’s squad thrashed Bani Yas Sporting Club 9-0 to reach the finals.The tournament wrapped up on September 9 in the city of Al Ain.
-- IMIDRO: Iran’s Steel Exports Grow 36%
Iran’s exports of steel rose significantly in the four months to late July this year with China being responsible for more than a third of purchases, according to figures by state-run metals and mining company IMIDRO.
IMIDRO figures published on Saturday showed that Iran had exported some $2.693 billion worth of steel in the four months to July 22, an increase of 36% compared to the same period last year.
The figures showed Iranian overseas steel shipments had risen by 140% in volume terms year on year in March-July to reach 10.923 million metric tons (mt).
-- 1st Int’l Fabric Expo Kicks Off in Tehran
Iran’s first International Exhibition of Fabric and Related Industries, “Fabric Fair 2023”, is underway at Tehran’s Shahr-e-Aftab International Exhibition Center, running from September 8 to 12.
More than 90 domestic and foreign manufacturers and suppliers of fabrics active in various fields attended the fair to showcase their latest products and achievements.
Fabric production units from different provinces and cities, including Tehran, Isfahan, Yazd, Alborz, Kashan, and other cities, are displaying their latest products and designs in the exhibition.

-- Terrorists involved in Shah Cheragh attack attend first court hearing
On Monday, three terrorists involved in the August terrorist attack on the Shah Cheragh shrine had their first court hearing in the southern Iranian city of Shiraz. The attorneys of the defendants, families of victims as well as eyewitnesses attended the hearing judged by Seyyed Mahmoud Sadati.
The representative of Fars Province’s General and Revolutionary Prosecutor accused the prime suspect, Rahmatollah Nowruzov from Tajikistan, of moharebeh (waging war on God), corruption on earth, and membership in the Daesh terrorist group with the intention of acting against Iran’s security. The two other defendants, Habibollah Arabzadeh and Amrollah Nazari were accused of colluding with Nowruzov to help carry out his heinous crimes.
-- Exploring life of Kiarostami, Dowlatabadi on silver screen
Three Iranian movies will be shown at the 28th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) slated for October 4 to 13 in South Korea. The lineup includes the documentary “Kiarostami at Work” by Kiarostami’s longtime friend and collaborator Seifollah Samadian, the documentary “An Owl, A Garden & The Writer” by Sara Dowlatabadi, and the short film “21 Weeks Later” by Nasrin Mohammadpour, according to the event’s official website.
A 2023 production, “Kiarostami at Work” is a 76-minute documentary about the late Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami, which is directed, edited, and produced by Kiarostami’s longtime friend and collaborator Samadian.
-- Unearthing mysteries of the Bronze Age: archaeologists explore Kordestan region
Archaeologists have commenced a new excavation season on an ancient cemetery in the Saqqez region of Kordestan province, western Iran.
The cemetery has previously yielded human remains and various burial objects estimated to date back to the Bronze Age, which makes it a significant area for historical exploration, Tasnim reported on Sunday.
The current digs are especially important in terms of clarifying the dark corners of human life during the Bronze Age. During the current excavation, archaeologists will be studying a range of issues that give insight into the way of life of people who lived in the region during that era.
