‘Terrorists pursue their agenda under guise of asylum-seeking’

Tehran, IRNA - The Islamic Republic of Iran High Council for Human Rights has urged all governments and the UN officials to hold accountable terrorist ringleaders who utilize asylum-seeking as a pretext to follow up their terrorist intentions.

The Human Rights Headquarters of the Islamic Republic of Iran issued a statement on the occasion of the International Day of Remembrance of and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism.

The statement emphasized that as a result of the double standards and discriminatory attitudes of certain governments in fighting terrorism and their support for terrorist groups, not only does the global catastrophe continue, but it also reinforces and spreads at both regional and international levels.

It also argued that Iran is the major victim of terrorism in the world and that over 17,000 innocent people have been martyred or severely wounded by different terrorist groups over the past four decades; the most heinous terrorist attacks, which are considered crimes against humanity, have been carried out by the Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK) terrorist group.

The second vicious crime by the Daesh terrorist group occurred at the Shah Cheragh shrine in Shiraz, Iran, leading to the martyrdom and injury of several innocent people, it added.

According to the statement, such incidents reveal the negligence, silence, and double standards of certain Western states in the fight against terrorism.

The support provided by certain states such as Western countries to terrorist groups in different ways, such as granting asylum and immunity, as well as financial and information backing, provides them with a ground to continue their brutal acts and sabotage without any punishment, it read.
