Safari made the comment on Monday in the meeting with Secretary-General of Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) Pornchai Danvivathana in Tehran.
Safari stated that the ACD is one of the organizations that can facilitate convergence among Asian countries. He also mentioned that Iran is prepared to assume a more active role, particularly during its presidency over the organization.
The two sides discussed the activities carried out by the ACD as well as an upcoming ministerial meeting scheduled for September on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
Prior to this meeting, Iran’s Foreign Minister, Hossein Amirabdollahian, had hosted and held talks with Danvivathana in Tehran.
The ACD was established in June 2002 with the objective of “promoting interdependence among Asian countries in all areas of cooperation and expanding trade and financial market within Asia”, according to the group’s website. The organization’s headquarters is located in Kuwait City, Kuwait, and currently has 35 member states. Iran joined the organization in 2004 and will assume its presidency later this year.
