Iran FM meets ACD chief in Tehran

Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has said that his country will do its outmost effort to promote cooperation among member states of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue when it takes over the rotating presidency of the ACD.

Amirabdollahian made the comment on Monday as he hosted the ACD Secretary General, Pornchai Danvivathana.

The two discussed activities carried out by the ACD as well as a ministerial meeting set to be in September on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

The Asia Cooperation Dialogue was established in June 2002 with the aim of “promoting interdependence among Asian countries in all areas of cooperation, and expanding trade and financial market within Asia”, according to the group’s website.

The ACD headquarters is in Kuwait City, Kuwait, and currently has 35 member states including Bahrain, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, and Kazakhstan, among others.

Iran joined the organization in 2004 and will take its presidency later this year.
