'Iran scientists’ self-confidence result in nuclear achievements'

Tehran, IRNA - Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Mohammad Eslami has emphasized that the unveiling of nuclear achievements has its roots in the self-confidence and self-esteem of the country’s nuclear industry employees.

Eslami addressed correspondents in Tehran on Sunday on the sidelines of the inauguration of cesium-137 or Radiocaesium, which is a radioactive isotope of cesium, saying the self-confidence has empowered the youth team of the Iranian nuclear energy program; so, we cannot be stopped in this respect.

The AEOI chief also said that our enemies have been and still are against the Islamic Republic's possession of nuclear know-how; however, all should be aware that nuclear energy is a strategic industry, which plays a direct role in people's lives.

The country can claim to have a nuclear fuel cycle because it possesses mines, it is capable of extracting and processing materials, and it can produce yellowcake, he argued, adding that alongside the nuclear fuel cycle, Iran has the capability to design, construct, and maintain nuclear reactors as well.

According to the official, the achievements unveiled today are able to be applied in industrial precision instruments, the oil and gas sector, as well as other fields.

We aim to build 20,000 megawatts of electricity which was a directive by the Supreme Leader, Eslami said, noting that we faced delays due to the sanctions imposed by technology-owning states and the obstacles created in the way of Iran’s nuclear industry over recent years.

However, Iran’s nuclear power industry produces 1,025 megawatts per hour of electricity, and the industry exports a sustainable capacity of clean energy, he said.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he pointed to Iran’s cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in the framework of the Safeguards Agreements, saying that the cooperation keeps pace, and the dispute on four nuclear sites has been reduced to two.

We cooperate with IAEA Chief Rafael Grossi, and AEOI’s Spokesman Behrouz Kamalvandi paid a visit to Vienna recently, Eslami said, noting that we will change the unjust narrative against Iran's nuclear industry by presenting our achievements in the 2023 IAEA General Conference.

He further said that Iran will play its role in different committees of the IAEA.
