‘Iran, Malaysia can cooperate in agriculture, natural resources’

Tehran, IRNA – Iranian Minister of Science, Research, and Technology Mohammad-Ali Zolfigol says Iran and Malaysia enjoy the potential to cooperate in the fields of agriculture and natural resources.

The two countries can focus on cooperation in these fields in addition to electronics and microelectronics fields, Zolfigol said during a meeting with Malaysian Foreign Minister Zambry Abdul Kadir in Tehran on Tuesday.

“Despite an eight-year war and cruel sanctions, Iran has managed to achieve good scientific growth and is among the top countries in the world in many fields such as biotechnology, medicine and nanotechnology,” he said.

Referring to the agreements struck by the two sides, the Iranian minister said a new memorandum of understanding on scientific and technological cooperation is being pursued officially, and “I hope it would be finalized before the visit of Malaysian Minister of Higher Education [Mohamed Khaled Nordin] to Iran.”

The Malaysian foreign minister, for his part, expressed satisfaction with his visit to Iran and his meetings with Iranian officials.

He said his country is familiar with the scientific and technological developments in Iran, expressing hope that the new MoU would be signed during the upcoming visit of the Malaysian minister of higher education to Iran.
