In response to a letter by Kazem Gharibabadi, the secretary general of Iran’s High Council for Human Rights, Türk said he strongly condemns the terrorist attack, expressing concerns over the fact that it was the second terrorist attack on the Shah Cheragh shrine in less than a year.
Such actions that target civilians and religious places are heinous and inhumane and cannot be justified under any circumstances, he wrote, adding that the goal of such cruel actions is to inflict fear among people.
In a recent letter to Türk, Gharibabadi had called on the highest UN human rights official to take a stance against the sinister phenomenon of terrorism and condemn the Shah Cheragh terrorist attack.
Two people were killed and seven others injured in an armed terrorist attack on the Shah Cheragh shrine in Iran’s southern city of Shiraz on August 13, the second such attack on the site in less than a year.
