“This destructive war in Ukraine would not have happened had it not been for the domination and excessive ambitions of the West let by the United States,” Deputy Chief of Staff of Iran's Armed Forces Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh said on Tuesday during an address to an international security conference in Moscow.
The Iranian general advised the architects of the war and its supporters to reconsider their approach, warning that jeopardizing the security of others could have unpredictable consequences for them.
“This point has repeatedly been raised by officials and experts in various security meetings that America’s unilateralism and hegemony will make the world a less secure place,” Nasirzadeh stated.
The brigadier general said the United States has a track record of crimes against humanity in every corner of the world, adding that its advocacy for human rights is just an “empty” claim.
He further denounced the US assassination of Iran's Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, a champion of the fight against terrorism in the region, in 2020 as a notable example of American crimes harming global peace and security.
The Islamic Republic of Iran, along with its allies and like-minded nations, is dedicated to pursuing the formation of a new global order, Nasirzadeh added.
SCO, BRICS help boost potentials of independent states
Nasirzadeh noted that the emergence of new and independent powers in different world regions coupled with the formation of new regional and global coalitions, such as Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BRICS, brings together the power and capability of independent countries against Western hegemony and will be another important factor in the formation of a new world order.
The general said that if resistance against coercion based on humanity and spirituality is placed on the agenda of more activists during the transition period of the international system, one can hope for the establishment of a new international system, which will be a multipolar system, based on a peaceful, regional, participatory, spiritual and fair order.
He said that such a system will ensure that the establishment of a real security which will cost less.
In this system, the might will not be right, Nasirzadeh said, adding that coercion and tolerating multiple standards will have no place in such a system.
The 11th Moscow Conference on International Security (MCIS) opened in the Russian capital earlier today.
On the first day of his Moscow trip on Monday, the Iranian general also attended Russia's Army Forum 2023 where he had meetings with officials from different countries.
