-- 40% rise in domestic wheat purchases
Iran reported a major surge in its guaranteed purchase of wheat from domestic farmers in the harvest season that began in April. Alireza Mohajer, an Iranian deputy agriculture minister, said on Monday that the purchase of wheat from domestic farmers reached over 9.5 million metric tons, up 40% compared to April-August last year.
“Although we faced drought this year and last year, the guaranteed purchase of wheat has increased by 40% compared to the previous year,” he said. The official further explained that this year’s wheat purchases had increased by 111%, or five million tons, compared to that of two years ago, when the Raeisi administration took office.

Newly-crowned world under-17 champion Ahoura Khateri says he is already aiming at a glorious Olympic campaign in five-years’ time. Khateri was part of the Iranian squad that bagged six medals, including double golds, to claim the freestyle crown at the Wrestling U17 World Championships in Istanbul last week.
Having missed out on a podium finish in the previous two editions of the freestyle event, Iran topped the table with 156 points – 30 clear of last year’s champion USA – and Khateri played an integral part in the country’s title-winning run.

-- UNESCO, Tehran University to Mark Persian Poetry Day
The Cultural Foundation of Maestro Shahriar’s Mausoleum will hold the first festival of top dissertations on Persian language and literature in cooperation with the UNESCO National Commission in Iran and Tehran University.
The event is planned for September 18 concurrent with the National Commemoration Day of Persian Poetry and Literature. Those interested may send their dissertations files not later than September 16 to: norooz1347@yahoo.com.
-- Ministry Confirms FM Amir-Abollahian to Visit Saudi Arabia
Iran’s Foreign Minister Hussein Amir-Abdollahian will travel to Saudi Arabia soon at the invitation of his Saudi counterpart and the kingdom’s senior officials, the foreign ministry announced on Monday.
Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said the two sides will discuss bilateral ties and the latest regional and international developments. Saudi Arabia severed its relations with Iran in 2016 after its embassy in Tehran and its consulate in Mashhad were attacked during protests over the execution of Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr.
--Russia, Iran Working to Boost Int’l Security
Deputy Chief of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh said here Monday that Iran and Russia are cooperating to boost international security.
Nasirzadeh made the remarks upon his arrival at Vnukovo airport in Moscow at the head of a delegation to attend Russia’s Army Forum 2023. The Iranian commander said the unipolar U.S. system is collapsing and the world is experiencing embracing a multipolar order.

Head coach of Iran's U16 handball team, Majid Rahimizadeh, thinks that the physical gap between Iranian and European players has influenced his team's performance in the 2023 IHF Men's Youth World Championship.
Iran's handball team finished 16th in the 2023 IHF Men's Youth World Championship. They started the campaign strong, tying with Sweden and beating Faroe Islands and Burundi in the preliminary round. However, they lost to Saudi Arabia and Germany in Group IV. Iran also fell short against Brazil and Slovenia.
-- World Festival of Animated Film Varna to host Iranian animations
Two Iranian short animated pieces, namely ‘Being Ten’ and ‘The Lovely Sky’ have been made into the World Festival of Animated Film Varna 2023 in Bulgaria. ‘The Lovely Sky’ has been produced at the Institute for Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults – Kanoon.
Written and directed by Amir Mehran, the animated piece will be screened in the competition section of this edition of the event.
-- 20 industrial, infrastructure projects inaugurated in industrial parks, zones
Iranian Industry, Mining, and Trade Minister Abbas Ali-Abadi inaugurated 20 industrial, infrastructure, and development projects valued at 294.8 trillion rials (over $60 million) in industrial parks and zones across the country through video conferencing on Monday.
The inauguration ceremony was also attended by the acting head of Iran Small Industries and Industrial Parks Organization (ISIPO) Farshad Moghimi.
