Attending a press briefing on Saturday, Shakibinasab said that the fire on an oil tanker carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) was fully contained in the early morning with round-the-clock efforts and now is ready to be transferred to the dockyard or any other area.
The fire had started at 15 local time on Thursday in the engine room of the Panama-flagged tanker called White Pearl, which was carrying 40,000 tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), he added.
He noted that upon the fire-hit White Pearl tanker request for help, Iranian rescue and firefighting vessels were sent to the scene and managed to save the 22 crew members.
Exploding one of the White Pearl’s compressors while preparing the tanks was the main reason for the incident, he underlined.
