Vietnam’s top lawmaker calls for deeper ties with Iran

Tehran, IRNA - President of Vietnam's National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue has acknowledged Iran’s strategic role in the region, calling for the expansion of ties between Tehran and Hanoi.

During an event marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Iran and Vietnam in Tehran on Wednesday, Hue noted that the geographical distance of 5,500 kilometers between the two nations has not hindered their mutual cooperation.

“Despite the considerable geographic distance, Iran and Vietnam remain committed to expanding cooperation,” he said. “We will expand our relations with Iran to promote peace in the region and the world.”

Stressing the potential on cooperation in the tourism sector, the top lawmaker pointed out that both nations possess a rich cultural heritage, with Iran boasting 27 UNESCO-listed heritage sites and Vietnam 8.

Addressing the event, Abolfazl Amouei, spokesman for the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Iranian Parliament, highlighted the strategic similarities between Iran and Vietnam in their international relations.

“Both nations are looking for just and multilateral international relations,” the senior lawmaker said.

Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi, the head of the Iran-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group, urged the establishment of direct flights between Iran to Vietnam.

“If we are to engage in economic interaction with a country, we must provide its infrastructure, which means launching direct flights from Iran to Vietnam is an essential requirement for this endeavor,” he added.

The head of the Economic Commission of the Iranian Parliament praised Vietnam's impressive economic growth rate of 8.2%.

Mohammadreza Pour Ebrahimi Davarani expressed hope that this growth trajectory would continue, leading to joint economic ventures with the Islamic Republic.
