Lady of Statistics of Iran (Mother of Statistics of Iran) Mahbanoo Tata was born on April 26, 1942, in Mumbai, India, and died in Kerman at the age of 81 years on August 7, 2023.
Mahbanoo Tata was member of scientific organizations, including the International Institute of Statistics, the Iranian Society of Mathematicians, and the Iranian Society of Statistics. She was named to as "Mother of Statistics of Iran" for all the contributions she made to Iran's emerging science of statistics.
Tata attended university to obtain her bachelor's and master's degrees in Mumbai before attending Purdue University where she studied and graduated with a Ph.D. in statistics in 1967.
She came to Iran after five years of teaching at Michigan State University. She spent two years as a statistics professor at the Sharif University of Technology and also taught students at Allameh Tabatabai University for 16 years.
Her attachment and devotion to her fellow Zoroastrians drew her to Kerman, in 1989. She worked in the statistics department of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at the Shahid Bahonar University of Kerman for the rest of her life.
