Border security tops Iran FM’s talks in Pakistan

Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has met with his Pakistani counterpart Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to explore new avenues for strengthening political, economic, and defense relations between Tehran and Islamabad.

The meeting took place at the premises of the Pakistani Foreign Ministry on Thursday.

Enhancing border security dominated the discussions, which also included other key issues such as trade relations and prisoner exchange initiatives.

After their private talks, the two foreign ministers presided over a meeting between high-ranking delegations from both sides to further deliberate on strategies for strengthening bilateral ties.

Amirabdollahian and Zardari are expected to address the media in a press conference afterwards.

Upon his arrival in Islamabad on Wednesday, Iran’s foreign minister said he hoped the visit would open “a new chapter” in relations between the two neighboring countries.

This is Amirabdollahian’s first official visit to Pakistan. He is scheduled to meet with Pakistan's prime minister, speaker of the National Assembly, and military chief.
