“Once again, the cursed criminal burned pages of the Holy Qur'an in Sweden, under the protection of the police,” Nasrallah said in a speech on Tuesday.
“This offensive and shameful behavior poses a challenge for two billion Muslims worldwide,” he added.
The Hezbollah chief also called on Muslims around the world to defend their sanctities against any acts of sacrilege.
“There is no longer any meaning to waiting for anyone. You must take up this responsibility and punish these damned people with the strongest punishment,” he said.
In recent weeks, the Holy Quran has been desecrated multiple times in Sweden and Denmark with the approval of authorities.
In the latest incident, Salwan Momika, who is believed to have been recruited by the Israeli spy agency in the past, set a copy of the Quran alight outside parliament in Stockholm.
Momika had carried out similar sacrilegious acts twice before over the past few weeks, once outside Stockholm’s main mosque and later outside Iraq’s embassy.
