In their separate meeting with Iranian Army's Navy Commander Rear Admiral Shahram Irani in Russia, the two commanders emphasized on the need to expand maritime and naval cooperation with Iran, according to Monday report by the IRNA.
Irani arrived in St. Petersburg on Saturday to attend the parade celebrating the Day of the Russian Navy in which two Iranian warships will also be present.
In his meeting with the Chief of the South African Navy commander, Irani appreciated the country's warm welcome to Iran's 86th Naval Fleet which was a global tour earlier this year and invited his counterpart to visit Iran and joint naval exercises.
Admiral Munde Lopez said in the meeting that good ties between South Africa and Iran is based on growing cooperation between the navies of the two countries.
South African waters and our ports are open to all Iranian military and civilian vessels and South Africa wants to develop naval ties with Iran, Munde Lopez added.
In his meeting with the Venezuela's Navy commander Jesus Sanchez, Irani referred to the country's strategic position in the Atlantic Ocean and said that Iran's Navy has active presence in international waters."
Sanchez said in the meeting that Iran and Venezuela's military cooperation, especially in the maritime field, is very deep and these relations are expected to expand in the future.
