In an exclusive interview with IRNA published on Wednesday, Kazutoshi Aikawa described as positive the current state of relations between Tehran and Tokyo.
Aikawa said former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited Iran when Donald Trump was the President of the United States, adding that Prime Minister Fumio Kishida also met with the Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi last September.
He noted that the Iranian and Japanese foreign ministers also make regular phone calls .
The ambassador said Japan is in favor of reviving the Iran nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, adding that Japan will continue to take measures to support the JCPOA revival.
He also expressed hope that tourist and business visits between Iran and Japan could increase after the easing of coronavirus restrictions.
