Iranians expect expulsion of Swedish embassy: MP

Tehran, IRNA – Chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian parliament Vahid Jalalzadeh says that people in the country expect Tehran to expel Swedish ambassador due to a second case of desecration against holy Quran that happened in the European country earlier this week.

In an interview with the IRNA on Friday, Jalalzadeh said that a consensus at the international level is needed to confront the sacrilege of the holy Quran in countries like Sweden.

He deplored the silence of the Swedish government, police, as well as the Western governments on the heinous move to desecrate the holy Quran, adding that insulting the values of Muslims should be considered as an insult to humanity, freedom, religions, and nations around the world.

The parliamentarian described the measure by Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to summon the Swedish ambassador as the least action to react to the desecration move.

Speaking in a phone call with his Swedish counterpart Tobias Billström on Friday, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said that the desecration of the Holy Quran and other holy books of divine religions is strongly condemned anywhere, by any person and under any circumstances.

A group of protestors gathered in front of the Swedish embassy in Tehran on Friday to slam the permission issued by the Swedish authorities for insulting the Holy Quran in the country.
