Iran embassy in Denmark condemns insulting holy books

London, IRNA - The Islamic Republic of Iran's embassy in Copenhagen, Denmark, in a statement condemned the insult to the holy books of various religions, including the Holy Quran, the Bible and the Torah.

"Insulting and burning the holy books of different religions is not only a clear example of religious hatred, but also an insult to its followers and a clear violation of human rights," parts of the Iranian embassy's statement read.

It added that offensive actions such as insulting religious books are not freedom of speech, but rather an open expression of hatred.

The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran called on all governments to ensure that extremists are not given the opportunity to harm the feelings of the followers of any religion under the banner of freedom of expression.

The Swedish government has caused widespread anger among Islamic countries by allowing an extremist to burn a copy of the Holy Quran.
