-- Iran expects Russia to ’rectify’ stance over three islands
Referring to a recent joint statement made by Russia and the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC), a senior Iranian cleric urged Moscow to rectify its position regarding Iran’s three islands in the Persian Gulf.
Giving the Friday prayer sermon held in Tehran, Mohammad-Hassan Abu-Torabi Fard stressed on respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iran, both as the newest member state of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and Moscow’s strategic ally.
During the sixth joint ministerial meeting between the PGCC and the Russian Federation that was held in Moscow on Monday, the ministers raised the issue of reaching a peaceful solution to the matter of Iran’s three islands of the Greater Tunb, the Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa.
-- Iran’s annual tourism revenues top $6b: Official
A deputy head of the Iranian Tourism Ministry said Iran’s annual tourism revenues have reached $6.2 billion, adding that tourism is becoming a major source of earning hard currency for the country.
Citing figures from the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) on Thursday, Ali-Asghar Shalbafian did not elaborate if the annual revenue figure was related to 2022 or to the calendar year to late March 2023.

The late Iranian writer and satirist Kioumars Saberi was honored in a ceremony on Friday, graced by the presence of Iran’s Culture and Islamic Guidance Minister, Mohammad-Mehdi Esmaeili.
During the event, Esmaeili emphasized the importance of cultivating a spirit of humor within the country, harnessing the Iranian people’s innate poetic and literary prowess to effectively convey messages through irony, metaphor, and humor.

-- IRISL Expands Shipping Activity in North Africa
Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) deputy for marketing Amir Bayat has said that a ship operated IRISL has docked and unloaded at a port in Libya amid Iran’s efforts to increase its export activity in Africa.
Bayat said that the Iranian ship that left Libya earlier in the day was the second to dock in the North African country in less than two months.
-- Tehran to Host Biggest Glass Industry Event
Director of the Iran Glass Association Hussein Zojaji has said that the Iranian capital of Tehran will host the Sixth International Exhibition of Glass, Machinery and Equipment on July 14-17.
According to Zojaji, the latest achievements of the glass industry including new devices, equipment, production lines, and ways of mining and processing raw materials are showcased in this exhibition along with a variety of glasses such as construction glass, facade glass, doors and windows, office glass, bent glass, automobile glass, and bulletproof glasses.
-- Italian Festival Features Iranian Animation
Iran’s animated short film ‘It’s a Gray, Gray World!’ has made it to Cartoon Club, an international festival of animations, comics and games, which is currently underway in Italy.
The film is taking part in the 39th edition of Cartoon Club.
Directed by Mohsen Pourmohseni-Shakib, the film is about a young man who lives in a completely gray world. “He is forced to change his color in order to live in that society, but his real identity scares people as it has been accidentally revealed by a playful boy,” the film’s synopsis reads.

-- UAE frees 15 Iranians as relations warm
Tehran said that 15 Iranian inmates who have been pardoned by UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan will come home shortly. Iran’s Foreign Ministry announced on Thursday that the release follows Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian’s travel to the UAE last month, where he spoke with high-ranking Emirati officials.
The ministry also stated that it will continue to provide consular and legal assistance to Iranians living abroad, as well as pursue the fulfillment of their rights, including those of prisoners.
-- Iran to open shipping office in Africa
Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) plans to open a regional office in Africa to ensure regular commute of its fleet to the continent through direct shipping lines, Fars News Agency reported.
As reported, the decision for launching the mentioned office has been made concurrent with the visit of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to Africa.
According to IRISL Deputy Head Amir Bayat, in addition to North and East Africa for which currently direct shipping lines have been launched, IRISL plans to expand its services in other regions of the continent.
-- Iran tourism revenues hit $6.2 billion in year, deputy minister says
Iran’s tourism revenues were $6.2 billion in 2022, Ali-Asghar Shalbafian said on Wednesday.
“According to the [latest] report of the World Travel and Tourism Council, Iran earned 6.2 billion dollars from foreign tourists last year,” Shalbafian said, addressing a travel conference held in the ancient city of Tabriz.
“Last year, some 50 billion dollars were earned from non-oil revenues,” the official noted to make a comparison.
