Raisi says Iran ready to expand all-out cooperation with Zimbabwe

Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi has said that his country is ready to boost cooperation with the “friendly country” of Zimbabwe in all fields including politics and economy.

The president made the remarks on Thursday at a joint press conference with his Zimbabwean counterpart Emmerson Mnangagwa in Harare where he arrived earlier in the day on the third and final leg of his African tour.

Raisi hailed efforts by Tehran and Harare to develop their relations, saying that the two nations share commonalities such as fighting colonialism.

The Iranian president said that Iran seeks to have interaction will all countries, not just Western states.

He also criticized certain countries, including the United States, for imposing sanctions on other nations.

Raisi noted that the Islamic Republic is opposed to sanctions and unilateralism, adding that sanctions are like a military tool that causes harm to nations.

The Iranian and Zimbabwean presidents spoke with reporters following formal negotiations.

Zimbabwe is the third leg of Raisi’s African tour that began early on Wednesday and has taken him to Uganda and Kenya.

This is the first African tour of the Iranian president since he took office in August 2021.

The trip also marks the first by an Iranian president to Africa in 11 years.

Raisi has said that his African trip is in line with his administration’s foreign policy agenda aimed at expanding relations with aligned and friendly countries across the world.

The Iranian delegation, led by the president, has signed a number of cooperation agreements with Kenyan and Ugandan officials.
