Tehran, IRNA – The following headlines appeared in English-language newspapers in the Iranian capital on Tuesday, July 11, 2023.

-- Iranian bas-relief unveiled in Tehran

The ancient Iranian bas-relief carving, believed to be over two millennia old, which was illicitly taken out of the country almost seven years ago, was repatriated to its country and unveiled at the National Museum of Iran on Monday.
During the ceremony, Jebrael Nokandeh, the director of the National Museum of Iran, said that the bas-relief belongs to the Sassanian era, and is made of limestone.
Iran’s Deputy Tourism Minister Ali Darabi said that according to the 1970 convention, the Islamic Republic of Iran is seriously pursuing the repatriation of historical objects, and in the recent meeting with China, the cooperation of member states was proposed, and the extensive effort of international countries to return historical objects was raised.]

--Gachsaran petchem project to sell $300m by March

An official with the Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (PGPIC) in southwestern Iran said the Gachsaran Petrochemical Complex was tasked with using up to half its current capacity, from October 23, 2023, to March 20, 2024, to produce Ethylene and C3+, the sale of which would net the company approximately $300 million.
Hassan Neshanzadeh Moghaddam, the PGPIC deputy CEO for planning and business development, noted that the complex can produce a million tons of Ethylene and 83,000 tons of C3+ annually. The output is achieved by getting the required water from the Kosar Dam in Gachsaran County and receiving 1.25 billion tons of feedstock from the Persian Gulf Bidboland Gas Refinery through a 90-kilometer-long pipe.

--  Iran commercializes hybrid seeds of cantaloupe, melon

Iran on Monday introduced a new hybrid variety of cantaloupe and melon seeds developed by the Faculties of Agriculture and Natural Resources at Tehran University that have now been made available for commercial use.
During the unveiling ceremony, Forouzandeh Soltani, a key member of the project, highlighted the various benefits of the product derived from these hybrid seeds which include superior flesh quality, resistance to certain diseases, being high-yield, extended shelf life, and tolerance of low temperatures.

-- Iranian Taekwondokas Crowned at Turkey Open

Iranian taekwondo practitioners snatched seven colorful medals to become first at the Turkey Open 2023–G2. Iranian men national squad won 4 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medals and became champion at the Turkey Open 2023–G2.
Mehdi Haji Musaei (weight -54 kg), Abolfazl Zandi (-58 kg), Mateen Rezaei (-63 kg), and Arian Salimi (- 87 kg) received gold medals in the sporting event.

-- Iran’s Exports to Africa Grow 100%

The Vice President of the Iran and Africa Merchants’ Club Seyed Rouhollah Latifi on Monday said that trade exchanges between Iran and African countries have registered a 100-percent growth since the current administration assumed office in August 2021.
Latifi made the remarks ahead of a visit by Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to the three African countries of Kenya, Uganda and Zimbabwe.
The visit of the highest executive official of the country to Africa after 10 years indicates the significance of the African continent in the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, he emphasized.

-- Iran to Meet 25% of Gas Demand From Storage by 2026

Iran has plans to significantly increase the country’s natural gas storage capacity so that it can rely on underground storage for 25% of the total domestic demand by 2026.
A Sunday report by the Fars news agency said that the Iranian Oil Ministry has plans to increase gas storage capacity in the country to a level in 2026 which can respond to 114 million cubic meters per day of gas usage.

--  Iraqi PM sends a message to Iran veep

 Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Sudani has sent a message to Iran’s First-Vice President Mohammad Mokhber that was delivered by Iraqi Health Minister Saleh al-Hasnawi during his visit to Iran.

Al-Hasnawi met in Tehran with Mokhber. During the meeting, the Iraqi health minister conveyed the greetings of the prime minister to him and delivered a message from Muhammad Sudani.

--  Iranian, Afghan firms ink MOU for constructing 3 wharves at Caspian Port

An Afghan company has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with an Iranian firm to invest $50 million at Iran’s Caspian Port in Anzali Free Zone for building three wharves.

The MOU was inked in a ceremony attended by the Secretary of Iran’s Free Zones High Council Hojatollah Abdolmaleki and Acting Head of Anzali Free Zone Organization Akbar Niazi.

--  Leiden Ranking: two more Iranian universities on 2023 list

 Leiden ranking system published the 2023 report, according to which 46 Iranian universities were among the 1,411 top universities in the world. Last year, 44 universities from Iran were listed in this ranking.

Among Islamic countries, Iran ranks first, followed by Turkey and Egypt with 36 and 13 universities respectively.
